Driving conditions from PV to EL Careyes
Hello, We have decided to fly into PV since there are no direct flights to Manzanillo from LAX and drive to El Careyes, 110 miles south. We had no trouble driving Hwy 200 north from Manzanillo (70 miles) but have not done driven the opposite route. Any comments? Is the road as good? I know it winds inland for a ways. We will spend the night in PV (suggestions on where?!) and then drive during the day. Any input would be appriciated. Thanks!

The road from PV to Careyes is actually straighter and better maintained than from ZLO to Careyes and while longer, I find it an easier drive. There is very little between PV and Careyes but they have just added two new PEMEX stations along the route which makes life easier. they are also in the process of activating the cell phone towers along Hwy 200 from PV to Manzanillo.
Try the restaurant at the Polo Club, quite good.

Thank you for the information! We would like to find a hotel that is easy to access and probably south of town? Wondering about Dreams. We stayed when it was Camino Real years ago....I'm not concerned with price but since it is just one night, I'd like a good dinner & night's sleep...then maybe Chico's paradise on the way south?

You might check these 2 website, both have BB's and are only about PV:
allvallarta.com
puertovallarta.net
for an update on how people are liking the old Camino Real now a Dreams
or of course Trip Advisor

Dreams would probably be a good choice for a night...I keep wondering whether I'll ever go back now that its changed from the Camino Real.
I am so sorry that it's an AI now -- I picture drunken red-faced loud people now taking over a resort that used to be wonderfully low key... hopefully I am completely mistaken and that's a snobbish stereotype on my part!
Would love to hear a trip report!
