Driving

Does it really take 8 hours to drive from San Jose to Puerto Jimenez? I have driven all over Costa Rica, and know that some roads are in bad shape, but that seems like a really long time for the distance. If we do decide to fly, will we be able to rent a car at, or near the airport in Puerto Jimenez, and can you please recommend a company? Thank you.

You can rent from/return a car in PJ, look into Solid Rental Cars. The road is a little quicker now, due to the new road between SJO and Manuel Antonio, plus the new road between Chacarita and PJ. Still though, it does take about 8 hours driving at the legal speed.
