Driver Needed
Hello,
Has anyone used a driver, or a variety of drivers, that they can recommend? My boyfriend and I are going to arrive to San Jose in the morning on Feb. 14, and will need transportation to Peace Lodge. The following morning (as early as possible), we wanted to go to Arenal. The next morning we will need transport to Monteverde - I understand there's a way to incorporate a ferry on the trip between Arenal and Monteverde that cuts down on the time? Is there a way to do this with a driver? And then we will need someone to drive us from Monteverde to Manuel Antonio. Ideally, we'd like someone who is reliable and able to leave early in the morning and is affordable. Our spanish is limited so someone who can speak english would be helpful. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks! |
We are staying at the Monteverde Lodge when we visit and are taking the taxi/boat/taxi option from Lost Iguana. I made the reservations directly through the Monteverde Lodge people, but I believe if you go to Monteverdeinfo.com, you can get some additional information and you may be able to make reservations directly from that site. I don't have my information in front of me right now, but I believe the cost is $50 pp, with a pickup at our hotel and delivery to the next hotel.
Hope this helps. |
Sorry about that. I think the cost was around $25 pp

I've used Swiss Travel drivers many times. They are kind of expensive, but very professional, always on time and the vehicles are in excellent shape. All of the drivers have been very nice guys, though they don't all speak English. They can arrange all of your transfer points before you leave so you don't have to worry. Another alternative is to call my friend Gustavo to see if he's available that week. He's a naturalist guide, but sometimes he doesn't mind serving as a driver. He speaks English very well and is a whole lot of fun. 011-506-836-3679 or [email protected].

I'm sure you will be hearing from Percy re this post. Oscar Mora will be our guide/driver for our May trip. He comes highly recommended in this forum. I took the following from one of Percy's posts:
E-mail is [email protected] His phone number is (at home) 249-0582 His cell number is:373-2736 According to Percy, you can always reach him on his cell. Good luck. |
dhuzsai
Well you gave good information about contacting Oscar. Oscar will drive you whereever you want to go...it is only a matter of how much you have to pay him. He is willing to stay over night at anyplace you are where you will want him early the next morning. Others have mentioned that his prices have gone up....I do not know what he is charging now. I think the ferry you are mentioning between Monteverde to Arenal is the "water taxi" ride over Lake Arenal to the other side. If an e-mail to Oscar does not get you a quick response ,then phone him on his cell, as dhuzsai, has already given you the number. There are many good Driver/Guides in Costa Rica and I am sure others will give you other choices. Have fun Percy |
Dont' know if he is available but Leo Rodriguez is highly recommended by posters here and on www.tripadvisor.com; and www.frommers.com He speaks fluent English, is a safe driver and so knowledgeable phone 011 (from U.S.) then (506)378-0001 e-mail [email protected]
