drive from dominical to matapalo?
hi everyone we were wondering how long of a drive is it from dominical to cabo matapalo
and if anyone has done the drive?going in feb any help would be great thanks |
has anyone made this trip??????
|
We did the trip in July of 2004. We took a taxi from Bosque del Cabo at Cabo Matapalo to Puerto Jimenez, then rode by bus to Palmar Norte where we hired a taxi in a blinding rain to drive us on up to Dominical. Just a few km south of Dominical we came to a bridge that was washed out and had to turn back.
I remember the ride from PJ to Palmar Norte being quite long, but can't remember exactly how long. I think about 2-3 hours. The road wasn't great but okay. From Palmar Norte to Dominical there is a fabulous new and wide highway. Hopefully all the bridges are intact! It was about an hour's drive (had we made it)--perhaps a little less. You could probably do the entire thing in 4 hours, mas o menos. Even if it takes you closer to 5, it's a nice drive. We enjoyed the route, especially driving along the Golfo Dulce on the north side. Beautiful. Good luck! |
anyone else???:)

I was down that way a few weeks ago...middle of October. The road is 'soft, bumpy, narrow in places, wet and slow. The coast road is under reconstruction due to several 'wash outs.' It is passable. If my memory is correct the ride took about 3/4 of an hour. Mostly is 2nd gear. Matapalo was delightful as always. A few new resturaunts.

I think there may be reference to two different Matapalo's here.
Jim are you wanting info on Cabo Matapalo south of Puerto Jimenez? Or Matapalo just north of Dominical? I was assuming the southern tip of the Osa? If so, repost here - I ran across a business card from people we met at Bosque del Cabo this year, they had driven from Dominical to Bosque - I will try to email them if you need? |
btw - LAG - good to know the road reconstruction is being done - lots of questions recently about this road between Quepos and Dominical!

jimandbe! Got a reply. Actually glad you asked the question, since I too wanted to know and had other questions to ask of her. So here is the reply! Hope it helps. I would ask your lodging operators/owners about current road conditions once we get closer to Feb. Have a great trip!!!!
"And the drive was 4 hours from Dominical to Puerto Jimenez, and then about 45 minutes from there to Bosque del Cabo, but I've also heard that the flooding damaged some roads..." |
thanks we will check for the road conditions at the end of jan. once again thanks for the help :)
