Drive from Cancun airport to Petit Lafitte Hotel north of Playa del Carmen

My daughter & I are trying to escape the rat race of our jobs for a few days of peace & quiet on the beach. Have booked flight, hotel & car. The car is just to make the trip from the airport in Cancun to our hotel, the Petit Lafitte, about 30 miles south on 307. And then the return drive to the airport 5 days later.

I am concerned about how much trouble it will be to get out of the rental car area at the Cancun airport and drive to the hotel without mayhem for ourselves or others on the road. :)

She knows an ounce of Spanish, me, not so much. No plans but to drive to hotel, get our bungalow, crash for 5 days, then drive back to the airport.
Sounds lame, but just what we both need.
So any information about navigating away from the airport and back again would be great!

This is the address of our hotel:
Carretera Cancún - Chetumal km 296 + 2.1 Xcalacoco, Playa del Carmen,
Q. Roo, México

Thanks!

Why don't you ditch the rental car idea and simply hire one of the numerous shuttle services to take you there and back? Much less stressful, and probably less money as well.

Rent a car a bunch of places in the world

will not rent in Mexico cops are as or more

corrupt than the criminals expect random shakedowns

"bribes" aka "la mordida" or "la morditia" and theft risk

driver guides way cheaper too for me form $35-50/half day

Hotel shuttles usually very cheapest.. check with your hotel.

travel.state.gov Cancun for a head's up on this.

insuremytrip.com for sure you will need it...

I have to agree. Driving in Mexico is not something I ever recommend, but many people do take the chance. If you are just using the car to/from the airport and not for sightseeing that's a big waste of money. There are plenty of shuttles at the airport.

Check this link for more information regarding transfers:

I normally rent a car and have never been stopped, but have to agree if you are just staying at your hotel and will not be leaving the property take a shuttle. I have used USA Transfers in the past. This is a private shuttle so no stops at other hotels.
