Drinks in CR

Does Costa Rica have a country drink? My husband is a beer drinking and I am not, so I am looking for alternatives. Is there a wine of choice??

Costa Rica is not known for wine. Local beer (Pilsen and Imperial) are great(your husband will be happy) though and the local drink I suppose is Guaro but I don't like it. Like I said, beer's really good and you can get any favorite mixed drinks.

As for wines, they are mostly Chilean, some quite good.

Beer I tend to like the Imperial.

Rum is the most used alcohol for mixed drinks. Pretty much anything you want, but with the added delicous flavor of blended fresh local fruits - yum!.

Guaro! Be careful! It will sneek up on you quicker than shots of tequila. But is quite good in several drinks, just be careful as to how many you have. A Caipirinha made with Guaro was very good, but probably went down a bit to smoothly!

Coffee liqueurs are quite popular and some Costa Rican rum is pretty good. Buy them at a local grocery for much less than in 'tourist' places.

A COLD Inperial after a long, hot hike is pure bliss.

They make a rum in Costa Rica called Centenario, and it's really good. I usually couldn't care less about rum, but this has a very good taste. It's easy to order rum & coke, but when I've tried to order other cocktails sometimes I get an unpleasant surprise, like something with a whole lot of lemon juice in it or what tastes like pure tequila when I've asked for a margarita. You can ask the bartender if he has a special. For wine, it's from Chile, which is usually pretty good.

Well Jerry, I can't believe I missed mentioning the Coffee Liquers! Especially since I mention coffee every chance I get!

They are wonderful. Personal favorite is the Cafe Rica.
