Drinking water

I have heard that the water in Costa Rica is fine to drink from the tap and I have also been told not to drink it. What experience does anyone have with water. Also, do they sell iodine drops there or should I buy them here?

The tap water in Costa Rica is safe to drink. As an added measure, many hotels filter water for guests. You'll be fine.

If the water isn't safe to drink, they'll let you know and will provide filtered water or bottled water. Most everywhere we've gone they've said it's safe, but on the Osa and in Tortuguero they had us drink filtered water. We've had several trips to CR and have never gotten sick. I've never heard of anyone using iodine drops there. I've gotten sick several times in Mexico, but never CR. You should be fine.
