Drinking the water and electricity

I thought I heard that the water is okay to drink in Costa Rica unlike Mexico. Is this true? or, should we be planning on purchasing bottled water?

Do I need an electrical converter for my camera charger?

Bogus, as you may drink water in Mexico as most is filtered and purified in most any serious turista pueblo.

Electricity in Costa Rica is the same as in Canada and USA. If you are from Europe you need an adaptor. Water is generally said to be safe. There are exceptions so ask.

Bottled water is easy to buy and served in most restaurants in Costa Rica. That said, we've stayed in homes and have drunk tap water time and again with no ill effect whatsoever. Unfortunately, we have had problems in Mexico (more than once), but will admit that it has been several years (about 5) since we were there. So glad to hear the drinking water is no longer a problem in most tourist destinations.

I guess it's always safer to go with bottled when in doubt. We have been to a couple of areas in Costa Rica where we saw signs that read: Water Not Potable. One place was Almonds & Corals Tent Camp near Manzanillo. The other was on top of Volcan Irazu.

when we in the yucatan in 2001 we were told over and over to not drink the water, not to even use it when brushing your teeth. I'm overjoyed to hear that has changed.

Thanks for the information everyone. Really excited ! We leave Sunday!

We drank water from the tap in Tamarindo and the Monteverde area. I suppose the quality of the water varies.
