Dreams Cancun Resort?
We're looking to book a honeymoon at the Dreams Cancun Resort for early September and have several questions before we do so. Does anyone have experience with the Dreams Resort? Would you recommend it?
Are you free to come and go from the resort? We're hoping to be able to experience some of the city as well as the resort. We are interested in taking a couple excursions--probably a snorkeling trip and definitely a trip to Chichen-Itza. Are the resort's excursions worth it or should we look for an third-party tour? Thanks so much for your help! |

You can rent a car for a couple days and do it on your own, both snorkeling (as mentioned xel-ha) and chichen-itza.
You can come and go as much as you want...there is a very good bus system that you can use to visit the town and any other restaurants, shops, etc. |
I haven't been to the Dreams in Cancun, but I've been to the Dreams Riviera Cancun, which is closer to Playa del Carmen. You are free to come and go from the resort as you please. When you book your vacation you'll have an agent - if you book with apple or funjet - you'll have a rep in the lobby to book tours with. If you book directly with the hotel they have a rep. However, you can always go to any of the reps in the lobby to book any tours. They're all priced about the same. If you've never been to Mexico, or if you're unsure of the area, I would go on an organized tour. There are a few people I've seen who do private tours, but I haven't priced them out to see if they are a better price. Sometimes you can get a 2 or 3 tour combo with a private tour person. You could check on tripadvisor to see if anyone has a recommendation.

We went to Dreams Cancun earlier this month and had a great time. You can come and go from the resort whenever you want. They will just ask you for your name and room number when you get back.
Dreams Cancun has a swimming with dolphins program on the premises and several of the rooms (including the one we had) looked out on the lagoon where the dolphins are. If you're interested in that, staying at the resort is really convenient. We really enjoyed our stay there. If we had to pick something we didn't like, it would be that the pool isn't huge (but it poured half the time we were there so it wasn't really an issue) and some of the restaurants were hit or miss. But otherwise it was great. |
