Drake Bay Resort

Thinking of going here with our 2 children (12 and 9 years) at Easter for 4 nights after 2 weeks in other areas of Costa Rica.
Does anyone have any first hand knowledge on this place?

I stayed at La Paloma awhile ago. It is a beautiful area. Pretty hot and humid but there are good breezes. If you get out into the rainforest in that area it is just awesome. I saw some of the most beautiful Heliconia flowers blooming out in the middle of the forest. My husband and I loved it so much there that we looked into buying some property. Ran into some title difficulties and didn't pursue it any further.

Corcovado park is a quick trip by boat as well as Cano Island for snorkeling/diving. We spent a whole day hiking way into the forest with a local campesino and didn't see much wildlife but lots of people have.

We stayed at the Drake Bay Wilderness Camp last month. The accomodations are basic but, the food is actually pretty good. I looked at the La Paloma which is just up the hill and the Aguila de Osa but, I just couldn't see paying so much more just to have a nicer room. I think they are refurbishing the rooms now. Your kids will need to like nature and be self entertaining. We are in our late 30's and we were the youngest guests there at the time. The tours to Corcovada and Cano Island are great and getting to the camp is an adventure in itself. You can also take a canoe or a kayak up the river or into the bay.

Drake Bay was the highlight of our trip.

Thanks for your comments - We are hoping there are other kids at Drake Bay over spring break holidays but our kids love snorkeling and hiking and swimming so it should work out okay. I hope it is the highlight of our trip too!

Hi,
We are in the process of organizing a trip to CR with our 2 daughters (13&11)over Easter break too. We have just started researching the trip but we thought that 2 nights down on the Osa would be "different". The only place we have talked with so far is the Iguna Lodge. I think that's the Drake Bay area but I could be wrong! The girls want to swim w/ dolphins....(like who doesn't)!

We're spending a week with our 9 and 12 yo children at Drake Bay Resort in early March. While we haven't had first had experience with the resort we had heard that it was very family friendly and often had alot of children as guests.

Iguana Lodge is in Puerto Jimenez which is on the southern side of the Osa vs Drake Bay which is on the Northern.
