Don't Cry for Me Argentina

A friend has just invited me to visit at an apartment he has rented in Buenos Aires. I will go the end of December '07 or the beginning of Jan'08 and can stay in Argentina for 3 weeks.

I'm thinking 10 days +/- in BA probably divided in 2 to save the friendship and approx 10 days seeing some more of the country.

My friend says domestic airfare is expensive; i am not sure of what other transport options/ distances are to other parts of the country.

I am an active (running, hiking, kayaking) architect who enjoys all kinds of looking at buildings/ and both city and countryside, the great outdoors and I speak passable spanish and italian ( I understand many italians settled in BA)

any suggestions both in and outside of BA would be appreciated as well as a weather guesstimate for that time of year.

I have travelled in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru but this will be my first side on the east coast of the country.

thanks for any help

You could go to Iguassu Falls for about 2 days and then a short hop over to Rio.

thanks Percy; how does one travel to the falls from BA
cheers Andrewdavid

Here is the website to see what the Falls are like.

You take a morning flight out of Buenos Aires to Iguassu and stay at one of the hotels the Sheraton.

I stayed at the Tropical Hotel des Cataratas.. a nice place and walking distance to the Falls but not walking distance to the "Devil's Throat Falls.

... this is a series of 14 Falls fused into one with a drop of 375 is absolutely mind boggling to see !!!!

When I walked up to the Devil's Throat Falls I just stood and looked in awe!!

I was there 4 months ago.

Have a great time and do see the Falls.

The pictures on the website do not do it justice.

Google Iguassu Falls and you will get some terrific pictures.

Good Luck and Don't fall over at the Devils Throat !!!

Oh yes and don't you dare come back from Argentina without seeing a REAL Tango/ Dinner show !!!!

It will be the most exciting dance you will see for sure and usually some lady singer is dressed like Eva Peron and she sings:

"Don't Cry for Me Argentina."

You will love it!!!!

i thought it was the men who ruled the tango roost

Just wait until you see those Tango Ladies and Men too.

They gave us Tango lesson before the evening show. Pricless !!

Been to Victoria about 20 times!

You may want to also spend a day or two at an estancia, if you're into horses. The weather that time of year will be really nice--the middle of summer.

that would be fun. riding hiking swimming? are those the activities on offer? Do you have a recommendation.? How far are they from BA

AndrewDavid Aug 8th, 2007 08:49 PM

the last line of my query should have read "east side of the continent."
