Dominican Republic or Mexico for snorkeling?

I am debating between these two places for a vacation, but the water is a very important component in planning the trip. Could I get some comparisons from some of you as to which would be the better choice? Thanks.

If the water is important to you, try the Tankah/Tulum area on the Mexican Caribbean. Great cenote and ocean diving or snorkeling. Beautiful beaches that go on for miles. Off-shore reef, archeological sites, etc. Check out this web site for info and pictures.
http://sites.netscape.net/tankah/

We did Puerto Plata in the D.M. and were very disappointed in the water and snorkeling. Perhaps the Carribean side of the Island is better.
The snorkeling around Cozumel is much better. Also, Isla Mujeres offers satisfactory snorkeling. We have a 15 page travel document on I M and surrounds that we can e-mail you if you request. dan and ginny
