thanks needsun~ i could swear i've never seen lifeguards. i did notice a what looked like a lifeguard chair, but no one was in it at the time.

Also, since Easter is mid march, they beaches will be packed full.

We just got back from a week at a timeshare that would probably fit your requirements--Villa del Palmar-- although as Suze pointed out, swimming without an adult wouldn't be a good idea (at any beach, really). Not sure if they rent outside the timeshare sites, but you can check them out at:

We knew people who walked to town, but it was a long walk and we didn't do it--took either a taxi ($4) or the local bus ($.50).
