Do we need A/C in July/Aug - Belize
Do we need A/C in July/Aug in the Cayo District? Looking at different lodges and wondering if an A/C is needed late July/ early August?
Chaa Creek - Cottages; does not have A/C but has fans Caves Branch Jungle Lodge - Treehouse: has A/C. Which would you choose? |
It depends on your heat tolerance and on luck - some of our summer trips it's been significantly hotter than other times. For years we stayed in budget places, hence no ac. Now we usually (but not always) plan to have it.

I never found the heat to be a big problem except for sleeping, and found a ceiling fan on a low speed to be the best. I never used a/c while living in Belize, and preferred a ceiling fan rather than a floor fan.
It is very hot at that time of year, and a/c will make your stay much more comfortable, especially while sleeping. |
We stayed at Chaa Creek and loved it, but it was extremely hot when we were there. We took that fan and moved it right next to the bed and blasted ourselves with it.

I personally would opt for air conditioning. It is hot and a fan only pushed that hot air around.

We did a tour with PACZ to go over to Tikal to see the ruins. When we got back no one wanted to leave the van because they had the a.c. on lol.

We like heat but Belize in July was very humid when we were there. So much so that we now describe extreme humidity as it being "Belize out." So while we were fine with no A/C at Chaa creek, it depends a lot on your heat tolerance. We live in Virginia, USA, and for years didn't use our A/C in the summer so we are on the "high" side of heat tolerance.
