do it ourselves or tour from Sarapiqui to Tortuguero for 2 day/1night
We want to see the green turtles, we are traveling in Aug and only have 7 days. We want to start at La Selva Bio Station and then go to Tortuguero before having 3 nights in Arenal. What tour co should we use, we have a rental car should we do it on our own.
Thanks our 1st time to Costa Rica and it is overwhelming trying to plan!

The Watson's are highly regarded and can help you plan your trip to Tortuguero. You should plan at least one night. Two would be better.

You will be backtracking as logistically La Selva is between Arenal and Totuguero.
Best to start Tortuguero with your itinerary. The Watsons or your lodge will pick you up in San Jose and you will drive to the docks where Modesto keeps the boat. ... if the Watsons are unable to assist you due to their own schedule then contact the lodges. I like Laguna Lodge and that is where the Watsons stay when overnighting in the area. Laguna Lodge bus will also pick you up in San Jose, an early pickup about 6 am. Ride to their docks is slightly shorter than the Watson's dock, but equally intriguing boat ride and the opportunity to meet lots of interesting people on the same tour.
After you tour of the canals, 1 or 2 nights, then you can pick up your rental car at the docks. This service is worth the extra charge, can't remember if it was 40 or 50$ as it will save you hours. It is easy to arrange - I have done it a few times with Tricolor, in the reverse direction. Not as easy to coordinate that way. When you get the car you can take your time to get to La Sleva, maybe stay at nearby, Selva Verde a night or two. The drive from the docks is 2.5 hours, 2 lanes highway, slow speeds due to schools.
Then Le Selva to Arenal is about 2.5- 3 hours, again variable due to traffic and time of day.
Lots of interesting lodging in Arenal
