distances in costa rica
hi, could someone please, tell me where i can find out information about how many miles are between
1. San Jose and Monteverde 2. San Jose and Arenal 3. Monteverde and Arenal 4. San Jose and Manuel Antonio |
one more distance:
Tamarindo to San Jose |
If you're driving, knowing the number of miles isn't going to help too much. The last 24 kilometers between Arenal and Monteverde took well over an hour, due to the condition of the road. We never got out of second gear.
Even on the Pan American highway, speeds are much slower than you are used to if you're from the USA. It's all two lane, and there are slow moving trucks, which are difficult to get around. Also cattle on the road. Plus the road maps and signage aren't great. All that being said, we had a ball driving between San Jose, Arenal, Monteverde and Manual Antonio. Jean |
would you quote me on roughly how long one would complete the above destinations?

SJ-Monteverde 4hrs
SJ-Arenal-3hrs Monteverde-Arenal (car) 5hrs Jeep 3hrs Horse 3hrs SJ-Manuel Antonio 5hrs Tamarindo-SJ 6 hrs All of those times are just approx. and conservative. From Alajuela (airport)it is about 3 1/2hrs to Monteverde if you don't get lost or stop. The trip to and from Manuel Antonio can get real slow if you get behind trucks while going over the mountains (pretty much a sure bet that you will). Guanacaste (Tamarindo) is ranch country and it is not unusual to have the ranchers moving cattle on the road. |
