Desperately seeking R&R in Costa Rica

Will be in CR in mid-May and can stay an extra few days...have been to Arenal and Manuel Antonio before. Realize it's rainy season. What should we do with the short time if we're in desperate need of R&R?

Hi, it depends where you want to spend those few days, beach, rainforest retreat, or by a volcano. I'll gladly point you in the right direction. Also, this is the very beginning of the rainy season, chances are you will have great weather the whole time.
Also, by looking at the other answer, I don't recommend Playa Montezuma. It's a wonderful idea but it takes one day to get there and one day to get back, so you lose 2 full days in travel. Tamarindo is 6 hours from San Jose, also a bit far.
Talk to you soon!

We had 2 days at the beginning of our trip in late March to just hang out. We stayed at Hotel Bougainvillea just north of SJ. The grounds were spectacular, tennis courts were in good condition, beautiful swimming pool, excellent restaurant, nice room with view of gardens, reasonable price, etc. We walked into the little town of San Ramon one day, but other than that we soaked up the sun and atmosphere and vegged out! Day trips can be planned from this location and it is 25 min. from the airport. We loved it.

Have you thought about heading over to the Sarapiqui region which is not far from San Jose? We loved Selva Verde Lodge, did tours at Tirimbina Rainforest Center and at La Selva Research Station along with hiking and birding at Selva Verde.

Where are you going to be for the first part of your trip? That would help people to know where else to suggest for your final four days.
