Departure Tax/CR

Good day, can anyone advise us on how much the departure tax is on Costa Rica? We will be traveling there in March.
Thank you in advance.

It's $26, you can pay in US Dollars, Colones or with credit card.

Also, to avoid long lines on your last day, I would suggest either paying it when you get to Costa Rica on your first day at the airport, or seeing if you can pay it at your hotel. I stayed at the Holiday Inn Aurola in San Jose, and was able to pay for it the night before I left. A big convinience, I assure you! And I think it is about $26 a person if my memory serves me correct.

If you pay with a credit card, it gets processed as a cash advance rather than a purchase. That means interest begins accumulating from that moment, along with additional fees. If you can, pay in cash. Just save out $26 or the equivalent in colones for the end of your trip.

We made the mistake of using a credit card once and picked up a $10 surcharge. Haven't done it since!
