Deluxe Cabinas at Bosque del Cabo....Mangillo?

Hello Bosque del Cabo lovers! My husband and I are considering our first adventure to Bosque del Cabo in Costa Rica for January.

Have you stayed in the <b>Mangillo deluxe cabina</b>? Can you provide me with more details? How does Mangillo compare with Toucan, Mariposa, Congo?

I have found some info online about toucan, marioposa, and congo, but very little about Mangillo deluxe cabina.

Thanks! And I might as well add a question about January weather at Bosque. For those of you who have visited multiple times especially... Is January weather comfortable enough for nature walks? Comfortable for sleeping at night? How are the mosquitoes in January? I should add I live in dry and sunny southern California. We tend to have mild temps year-round.

Thank you!

Mariposa and Toucan/Tucan have bathtubs - don't know if that's important to you, but I loved taking baths outside while monkeys swung overhead. We stayed in Tucan and loved it. Mariposa is on the end so considered to have the most privacy.

volcanogirl: Thanks for your reply. I'm hoping someone has stayed in Mangillo? For some reason I don't see Mangillo (deluxe cabina) mentioned very often.

Have only walked around in it after some guests left. The first 6 pics here are of the cabina. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?ai...id=44240529653

It's hot year round on the Osa. There's steaming, really hot, hot and sorta hot.

vg - will be in tucan again in less than 2 weeks!

<b>tully</b>: Thanks for the hilarious but realistic weather report! 8-) And thanks for the link to photos. Gorgeous! Mangillo photos look so artfully decorated and suited to sleeping in a rainforest. Which cabina is shown in the 7th photo, which shows some colorful orange & blue chairs on a patio with gorgeous ocean view? This is so helpful!

All the photos that I have been able to see for any of the deluxe cabinas are beautiful. Bosque del cabo has done a great job with the deluxe cabinas.

A family was staying in Manglillo when we were there; I think it's a loft cabin. They liked it. Mel, I asked them to send cabin pics to us when we were trying to decide, and they sent a few. tully, lucky girl!

It's always hot and humid there, but isn't March supposed to be the warmest?

You're welcome. That 7th pic is Congo cabina, and that view is why it's so requested. Lapa has a very similiar deck and view. Pizote is now a deluxe cabina (used to be a classic), I will try to get some pics of it when I'm there now that it's complete. Really all of them are beautifully done.

Hey Melissa, We're going to be staying in Gecko the 15th through the 17th, so if you there at the same time, stop by, say hello, and we can compare cabins.

Melissa5 Nov 21st, 2010 07:46 PM

<b>bd:</b> Ok bd sounds good! If we're there the 15th through 17th we'll stop by Gecko...wow I'm already meeting the neighbors. 8-)

My husband and I have just decided to postpone our trip to Costa Rica. Thanks for all the info because we are still dreaming of heading to Bosque del Cabo sometime in the next couple of years! (-:

volcanogirl Nov 22nd, 2010 04:17 AM

So did you guys decide to go to Kauai after all?

bd Nov 22nd, 2010 05:10 AM

That's too bad, because I read on your other posts that your husband is a herpetologist/biologist. Mine is too, so they could have enjoyed swapping stories.

Melissa5 Nov 22nd, 2010 10:29 PM

<b>volcanogirl:</b> Yes we decided on Kauai for this January. We are going to go to Bosque Del Cabo sometime in the next 2 years we decided. I am so busy right now I barely have time to plan a vacation! We decided it is just more practical for us to move our Costa Rica trip forward to 2012 or 2013, so that we'll have plenty of time to plan and get ready for it and look forward to it. For us, Costa Rica is a bit more complicated of a trip, and Kauai seems easier for January 2011.

<b>bd:</b> That would have been fun! I'll look for your trip report when you return. (-:

<b>bd:</b> Ahhh! Nothing like being indecisive. I'm already reconsidering out decision...maybe I should go ahead and try to book Bosque for this January...my husband and I agreed on Kauai but I can tell he would rather go to Bosque del Cabo this January rather than have to wait. I'll hunt for you on fodors and let you know if we actually do book! :-D

bd Nov 23rd, 2010 05:24 AM

Wow! I'm indecisive too, but changing plans in 3 hours is pretty good. Life is full of hard decisions. I just hope all of ours remain as difficult as "Should I go to Costa Rica?" or "Should i go to Hawaii?"

volcanogirl Nov 23rd, 2010 06:51 AM

True, it's good problem to have!

hipvirgochick Nov 23rd, 2010 11:37 AM

If you are just visiting one or two areas I CR the planning/logistics isn't so bad. Both are beautiful. Osa is my fave although it's been a while since I was in Kauai. For wildlife I'd stick with BDC.

Melissa5 Nov 27th, 2010 12:37 PM

bd, volcanogirl, and hipvirgochick: We have decided to go to Costa Rica after all!!! That is, if Bosque del Cabo still has space available. I have already emailed them and am hoping to get 4 nights in January in a deluxe cabina.

I am feeling crunched for time to plan this trip. But it's true that once you book Bosque del Cabo your meals are taken care of and you don't really need to plan your activities as the "adventure" surrounds you! Also I crave sun in January as its our rainy cold gloomy month in January in San Diego. So the weather at Bosque del Cabo in January actually sounds better for me than the weather on the north shore of Kauai in January. My husband really had his heart set on Bosque del Cabo even though he was cheerfully willing to go to Kauai.

So I'm waiting to hear if Bosque del Cabo still has an opening for us. THEN I will have lots more questions! If they are booked, we will have to move Bosque del Cabo trip over to January 2012. But hoping they have space for January 2011.

Melissa5 Nov 27th, 2010 04:16 PM

Wa-hoo! >:D< Bosque del CAbo does have space for us in a deluxe cabina in January 2011...so here we come, Bosque del Cabo! They had different dates open up so I'm not sure which cabina it is...may not be the Mangillo cabina. I'll find out which cabina.

<b>bd:</b> Yes we just may cross paths on this trip! My husband is very interested to meet your biologist herpetologist husband as they indeed have interests (passions) in common. Do you also use tripadvisor? on the tripadvisor forums, you can email me (Melissa5) using tripadvisor's email. (I wish fodors had this function!)

I'm SO EXCITED and I'm sure will be posting lots of questions! I have a question about shoes posted and would appreciate input from other travellers.

volcanogirl Nov 27th, 2010 09:52 PM

Melissa, your husband will be in heaven. You will get major points with him! Are you going to pair it with another location?
