Costa Rica EF Tours for Middle School

We need to make a decision tonight about signing my son up for an 8 day Costa Rica trip through his Middle School. I've read all kinds of reviews, but most are very old and/or regarding trips in Europe. We understand they aren't going to be staying in luxury accomodations and the food will be basic - that's fine. I'm more concerned about safety, etc. My son really wants to go and he's a responsible kid.
Please share any experiences or suggestions you have regarding trips through EF in Costa Rica for students.
Thank you!

I haven't been to CR so can't help you w/ that. But my understanding about EF tours - any complaints are not about safety. Mostly that they are expensive for what one gets. If you are OK with the costs, I personally wouldn't have concerns re his safety.

I've haven't seen much discussion of those tours on these boards, but we've been to Costa Rica several times and have always felt safe everywhere that we've gone. We love it.
