Debating on reservations

We just booked Si Como No for late July/early August. Shd we book the rest of our trip now too? I'm thinking that maybe we shd take our chances and just bring a list of hotel choices. Does anyone know if the rates change much if you are a walk in customer w/o a reservation?

We went to Costa Rica last year in July. In the less popular areas we were able to get less than internet green season rates. For Example, Selva Verde was about forty dollars less a night than the green season web site rate.) In Monteverde we did get a slightly better rate, at Arenal same as green season rates. If you have your heart set on a specific place I guess I would book it. We were able to get our first choice everywhere except MA but it looks like you have that hotel booked, and I'm sure they would not give you a walk in rate, anyway. Have a wonderful time.

Forgot to mention that a big advantage in not having them booked is that you can go see a few of them or at least see the ones you have in mind before you book them. Sometimes they are so different from the way they are described, or you don't realize they are on a busy road, etc. It was so easy to find rooms, though, I probably would not book them ahead.

Anita, Karen has the right idea, going that time of year it's easy to pick and choose your hotels. Don't be afraid to ask "is that the best price?", you might be pleasantly surprised...
You might consider booking your first nite somewhere then "wing it' from there.
If you are in Jaco, check out the Cancion del Mar hotel- really nice suites!
Good luck and have fun!
