Bill,
First of all, your photos are fantastic...especially the Tanzania shots. Wow! Africa is high on my list of destinations...as soon as I can save the time and the money ;-) Did you specifically go on a photographic expedition?

As for San Blas...yes we are staying at the Hotel Garza Canela. The proprietor, Josephine, will arrange all your guides for you. However, we arranged everything through Tom Ryan at San Blas Birds (www.sanblasbirds.com). Basically he just did all the communications for us and charged a small overhead--normally I would have done everything myself, but this seemed so easy and we were extremely busy at the time so it was a nice service. There's lots of info on his site about San Blas.

I'm not familiar, though, with Isla Isabel specifically. There is a different island mentioned on his site for nesting seabirds (Roca Elefante.)

I'll let you know how it goes, and vice versa if you happen to get up there!

Janet, many thanks for the link to Tom Ryan, looks like a lot of good info for the kind of trip we had in mind.

I replied to your email about Africa and Artie ...

Hola: We are traveling November 8 and leaving PV on December 4th. Our original poster didn't say where their reservations are, just curious. I don't know how the bird watching came about with this post, but it is interesting how one post evolves and helps so many people. Sounds like San Blas is a must see in the near future.

Hi Blondlady!!
We will be staying at Villa del Mar one week and Villa del Palmar the second week when daugher and friend meet us. Have been researching staying a nt. or two north, possibly Sayulita or San Pancho. Thought we would rent a car once we got there; maybe for the whole time or not. Appreciate any info on Benny when you return. Have a great trip and look forward to hearing from you..

HI; I wanted to tell you about the car. If you rent ahead, say National (or any of them), I would not get it when you arrive IF you think you might spend a couple of days in PV or a day or overnight in Yelapa. Take a taxi to the hotel. From the hotel to the car place (they are across the street from the airport) take a bus or a taxi. Go from the Car rental up to Sayulita and North. THIS way you avoid a LOT of headache traffic in downtown PV. Since you don't know the Tunnel and one way streets, it can be frustrating. I don't know where those hotels are I think Villa del Mar is in the hotel zone by the Gigante store, but I didn't see the sign last August. If so then you are half way to the airport and it won't be as big a deal. San Pancho Beach is not as pretty as Sayulita. I do think you would like Guayabitos, look up MiCasaesSuCasa. Pelicans come right up to within 2 feet of people where a fisherman cleans his fish on one end of the beach. I am fasinated by these huge birds, and I didn't have my camera at the time. Will get back to you from Benny.

Again...thanks so much, blondlady!!! I was hesitant to venture too far north. Looking at the website for MiCasaesSuCasa, and have already emailed them to check for availability. Looks awesome, have you stayed there? Says its less than an hr. from PV... Haven't been overly thrilled with whats available for lodging in Sayulita. Hope this works out!
So, about the car..you think wait til we get there to reserve it or reserve it here? Would have to plan which days and how long. Definitely would rather just cab to town. Villa del Mar and Palmar are next to each other in the north hotel zone. Yes, I saw there was a Walmart across the st.
One more question...have you done the tour to the Huichol Indians? Very intriged by this...still researching.
Thanks again for all your help!!!!!

Hi: No I have not done the Huichol tour. I haven't stayed at MiCasaessuCasa, but have talked to many people who like it. If you go on the Jaltemba Bay Folk site you will see the people there are very friendly and there is a lot of raves about the owners of the B & B. That is the site for Guayabitos and La Penita. I would make the reservations for the car before you leave the states, you don't have to pay ahead and you can always cancel the car if the timing is not convenient once you get there.
