Cuzco itinerary advice needed

Day 1: flight to Cuzco from Lima. Arrive Cuzco @ 10:40 am. Spend the day and night. Hotel - Sonesta Posada
Day 2: early train to MP for the day. late train back to Cuzco for another night.
Day 3: early train or taxi to Ollantay and stay at the Hotel Pakaritampu for 1 night.
Day 4: Afternoon train or taxi back to Cuzco to catch 4:30 flight back to Lima.

Any suggestions on this? I'm leaving for Lima on the 10th of November.

I'd strongly recommend staying in Aguas Calientes for night of Day 2, so that you have a full day to spend at MP. This way you also can be there during the late afternoon after the big tour groups leave. Then you can take the early morning train directly to Ollantay on day 3. No need to go back to Cuzco at that point--its a long train ride! Its under two hours to Ollantay from Aguas Calientes.

have a great trip, its awesome.

I didn't know there was an early train out of MP.

Would there be time to check into my hotel before catching the bus to MP?

There isn't an early train from Machu Picchu to Cuzco according to the Peru Rail website:

http://www.orient-express.com/web/tp...ys/4_53409.jsp

You'll have enough time to check into your hotel before taking the bus. The buses run like every hour or so starting at 6:00 a.m. However, I do recommend that you don't dally too much. The crowds really start showing up around mid-day.

And, while there doesn't seem to be an early train back, it does make sense to stop off in Ollantaytambo on the way back. It saves you a trip. So, you could do the following:

Day 1: Arrive Cuzco
Day 2: Early Train to Machu Picchu; Late Train to Ollaytaytanbo. o/n Ollaytaytanbo.
Day 3: Tour Sacred Valley. o/n Ollaytaytanbo.
Day 4: Morning train/taxi/bus to Cuzco. Taxi is around $40USD. Bus is much cheaper.

Or, even do it the other way around.

Day 1: Arrive Cuzco
Day 2: Tour Sacred Valley, get dropped off in Ollaytaytanbo at the end. o/n Ollaytaytanbo.
Day 3: Train to Machu Picchu. Late Train back to Cuzco.
Day 4: Depart for Lima

This seems like such a rushed trip. We went there last summer. We had planned 2 days in Cuzco before leaving for the Sacred Valley for 2 nights. The day we flew into Lima we were supposed to fly on to Cuzco but the weather was bad and all flights were cancelled. We didn't fly out until the next day losing one full day in Cuzco. Cuzco is a wonderful place to explore for a few days as is the Sacred Valley. We also spent 2 nights in MP which I would also recommend. The area is so special that unless you expect to go back again I would definitely extend your trip for a few additional days.

Just got back from the similar trip. I would skip Ollantay completely. Not much to lose. Instead I would stay longer im Cuzco.

Day 1 as you have it. Day 2 tour of Sacred Valley then stay at Hotel Pakaritampu after seeing Ollantaytambo. Day 3 You can walk short distance to the train station where you catch the train about 8:00 am (if you leave from Cuzco you'll have to be at the station about 6:00 am)then you can spend the day at MP and take afternoon train back to Cuzco. Day 4 Shop or sightsee in the morning right in Cuzco. FYI Hotel Pakaritampu was very nice in a garden setting. Enjoyed drinks and snacks in the garden then watched a video in the lounge. The restaurant was good.

There is definitely an early train from Aguas Calientes to Ollantay, because I took it in August--left at 5:30 a.m. and arrived in Ollantay around 7. Be aware there are several trains that are NOT listed on the PeruRail website. We also took the late train (8:30 p.m.) FROM Ollantay to MP and that's not listed on their site either.
