Customs in SJ -- will we make our flight?
 

Hello....we are arriving in SJ on a Sunday afternoon at 12:45...will we have enough time to clear immigration and make a 2:00 Sansa flight to Bosque Del Cabo? I know Sansa's in the same airport and we will only have carry-on, but I am used to spending hours in the immigration line in Jamaica and wondered what the usual wait is in San Jose. We are planning on a few days in the central valley at the end of our trip and going to the Osa first would work better with our schedules. Any suggestions would be appreciated...Thanks

Our wait at customs in SJ was about 1 hr. BUT, our flight was delayed 1 1/2 hours so we got in much later than we expected. I think it might be cutting it a little close because you never know what will happen.

More than likely, you'll be through immigration by 1:30. You should be OK.

The first time it took more than two hours to get through immigration and two minutes through customs. It seems many planes landed at the same time. Our flight from Houston arrived two hours late. Last time it took no longer than 10 minutes and there was no line in immigration or customs. Our flight from Newark arrived on time.

Conclusion: You may make it or not. That is IF your original flight from (wherever you are coming from) is on time. You have to decide whether to book this flight or to fly later in the day or the next morning.

I have been to Costa Rica 3 times and am returning for my fourth visit in April.
Each visit I have ALWAYS made accomodations for the night in San Jose and begin our trek the next day. This way if there are delays, or if you have a late flight, you can wake up to following AM and get off to a rested start. No erason to start a vacation rushed!

We are flying to CR from Newark in March. We are on the flight that lands at 10p.m. Was that your flight also, and how was the SJO airport when you landed? We will have 2 kids in tow.

Thanks for all the input...I guess we will head to Arenal in a rental car instead of flying out to the Osa on our first day. I would be a nervous wreck worrying about missing that Sansa flight, especially since we are flying out of Atlanta where delays are commonplace....Lori

Ah - flying out of Atlanta! Most definitely I would not want to be stressed out during the first day wondering if I was going to make the connecting flight and then wondering where I would sleep that night!
