Cuernavaca lodging

Planning to spend Monday March 17 in Cuernavaca and may stay overnight, checking out Tuesday. Any suggestions for where to stay? Places that can be booked online are especially appreciated.
Also would like to hear suggestions for specific things/places to so and see in Cuernavaca.
Thanks!

Las Mananitas, and La Hacienda de Cortez would be very nice places to stay. Just overnight you would probably enjoy the downtown area. The Cathedral, borda Gardens, etc. The downtown is very pleasant with many things to see.

100% support of Dude - stayed at Las Mananitas, very romantic hotel. Try www.differentworld.com for booking - they got us in when every other web site was saying full. Definitely do an overnighter in Cuernavaca and have dinner with the peacocks at LM.

Thanks, folks. Any info on how to reserve at Hacienda de Cortez online?

We're back and the overnight in Cuernavaca was a nice respite. Stayed at Hotel Posada Maria Christina, $129 for a king bedded room that was "colonial rustic" but quite comfortable, no breakfast included. Location was good, walking distance to the main attractions. Had difficulty geting online reservations most places, but it seemed like the place wasn't that crowded - not sure why. Locals said that the weekends tend to be jammed with folks escaping from Mexico City, but weekdays less so. Did eat at Las Mananitas and it was truly beautiful. Not cheap - lunch for 2 (split an appetizer, had salad, entree, one beer each, no dessert) was about $85 with tip - but ambience and service were excellent. The Cuanahuac museum was fantastic - highly recommend it for a longitudinal view of the history of Mexico from precolumbian through modern times. Didn't have enough time to see the art galleries, will schedule more time for next visit.
Thanks to Dude and Travelnick for the suggestions!

I have been looking into Las Mananitas and whe I called them I was quoted a rate of $235 per night. Do you know of a way to get a much better rate? I read on these boards that people have paid half that...

Thanks

Get in touch with differentworld. May be your days-Friday and Sat night are a lot more expensive as it is a haven for the weekend for upper classes of Mexico City.

People have stayed at Las Mananitas for less than $235? I've never seen any discounts for it. In fact, I think they only have one room that is at that rate, overlooking the restaurant garden. The ones in the pool garden or with private patios are more. There is some seasonal variation in the rates. This is one place that I find really "worth it." It is just totally luxurious in terms of service and room quality! I love it at Las Mananitas!
