Mexico may have alligators as well as crocodiles, but in neighboring Belize there are only crocodiles -- the American Saltwater and the smaller Morelet's.

The crocs, especially the American, do occasionally cause problems for humans. A boy swimming in a canal in Belize City was killed about a month ago by a croc. Crocs also eat dogs and other small animals.

They are quite common in the lagoons, and in mangrove areas along the coast of Belize. If you go out at night on the lagoons you can usually see their beady red eyes in the water.

I know there are both Morelet's and American Saltwater crocs in Mexico, and possibly also the common Spectacled Caiman, which is also pretty small.

--Lan Sluder
Belize First
