Crocodiles/Alligators???
 

Is it true that you have to watch out for alligators in some parts of Mexico? If so, where do you need to watch for them. This is as bad as sharks! I am talking about in the lagoons, not on land, BTW.....

Went to Cancun in 1998 and stayed at Club Las Velas. Right on the lagoon. Alligators used to come onto the property at night. We never actualy saw them but friends of ours did. <BR>Even so we went water and jet skiing and didn;t see one. We're not even any good at water skiing , infact first time to try. Scary thing of the gators but were told that they never came near noise during the day. Stayed right out in the mangroves. <BR> <BR>Have fun!

Mexico may have alligators as well as crocodiles, but in neighboring Belize there are only crocodiles -- the American Saltwater and the smaller Morelet's. <BR> <BR>The crocs, especially the American, do occasionally cause problems for humans. A boy swimming in a canal in Belize City was killed about a month ago by a croc. Crocs also eat dogs and other small animals. <BR> <BR>They are quite common in the lagoons, and in mangrove areas along the coast of Belize. If you go out at night on the lagoons you can usually see their beady red eyes in the water. <BR> <BR>I know there are both Morelet's and American Saltwater crocs in Mexico, and possibly also the common Spectacled Caiman, which is also pretty small. <BR> <BR>--Lan Sluder <BR>Belize First
