crime in tulum?

should we be concerned about crime in tulum? thinking about staying there for a few days on our honeymoon but i don't want to have to worry about our room being broken in to. i understand we need to be concerned about leaving things in a rental car, and the obvious but i've read a few things about the increase in hotel crime in that area (like the entire room safe being taken!).

Hopefully you are looking at a good hotel that has good security. We have left our door unlocked for 10 days on two different vacations in Tulum - Ana y Jose and La Conchita - never a problem. We'd lock-up if we left the property, but leave it unlocked if we were on the beach, etc.

What place had a room safe stolen? I know La Conchita's are cemented into the shelf - there's no way to get it our w/o a sledgehammer.

...and I'm Pepper in real-life...yes.

Nothing like that is going to happen at Ana y Jose.
My feeling is this: When you take care and respect your staff they will do the same to your property and guests. To me, that is the unspoken feeling around AyJ.

At AyJ, we had one of the newer suites half the time (Aqua de Mar) and Estrella (the original suite) for the rest of the time. I really don't think we locked the doors at either room, but we leave valuables laying around.

AyJ has staff lurking around at all times. They know who goes where and when. They had even found some of my kids' beach toys and set them on our patio one day. They're keeping an eye on you.
