Snorkel Excursions from Akumal

Can anyone tell me if you can take Snorkel Excursions from Akumal to Cozumel? Or do you have to drive to Playa or ferry over to Cozumel directly?

If there are, any recommendations?

Thanks!

No , there is no direct snorkel tour from Akumal. Off to Playa then ferry over.

But depending on when you are going, I would plan the Cozumel trip when the cruise ships are not there. Mucho, mucho cruisers all snorkeling! Ugh!

Yeah I looked online and it appears there are ships everyday at Coz. So I don't think we will have a choice in terms of the crowds.

How is the snorkeling around Coz? Is it worth a one day trip? We are leaning towards staying in Akumal the whole time but now are thinking we may stay 2 nights in Playa as well, to take in the snorkeling over at Coz.

How far is Playa Ferry terminal from Half Moon Bay?

It has been years since we were in Coz. Too crowded for out tastes.

Do a search for Cozumel forums and post your questions there. I do know most snorkel areas there are utilized heavily by the cruisers. But if you have not been before, you might want to head over. The ferry ride is fun and if you go early you might miss most of the crowds.

PDC is about 45 mins north of Akumal depending on traffic. Drive carefully.

There are some good forums for Playa and Akumal.

This is a great one for Akumal.

Hope this helps!

If you want to go to Cozumel, you can easily leave Akumal early and be on a PDC ferry in about an hour. However, a night or two in PDC is also a lot of fun. You do realize that Akumal has world class snorkelling both from the beach and from local boats.

Thanks for the info. I think we may just take a day trip to Playa and base ourselves at Akumal. 45minutes isn't a bad drive!

Yes I have checked out locogringo. Has anyone booked with them before?

We have booked with Loco for years, in fact just booked the entire month of Oct with them. Staying 6 weeks all together, may book the additional 2 weeks with them or just wing it and stay wherever we want. Book with them , you will not regret it. They are great! Tell them Toni in Cincy recommended them.
