CR - is it worth it in August?

I know this is touted as the "green season" but wondering how much the weather impedes in mid to late August. Some on the trip will want to fish & golf. Others just hang at the beach. Maybe some canopy tours. 2 young children would be traveling with us as well. Looking at the North Pacific coast.

Thanks!

The earlier in August the better. I{d go for it. Sometimes it can go for days without rain in that part of the country. If you were planning Sept or Oct, you might want to reconsider, but I{ve traveled with great luck even in October, you never can tell for sure. Usually just a brief afternoon shower up north. . .

There's a website costa-rica-guide.com that allows you to click on certain CR areas, and it will show you the rainfall that can normally be expected during certain months. We went late July last year and had afternoon showers each day, but not anything that ruined our trip.

We're going in July again this year. We like that time of year because everything is green and lush. We used to always travel during September for my birthday, but we gave it up when we discovered Costa Rica because September seems to be when the heavy duty rain comes.

The first time I went to CR was for the whole month of August. It rained every day, but mostly for brief periods. Since then I have gone back twice in March. August was preferable - not as hot, not as crowded and much more lush.

We were in Costa Rica last August...we were on the Nicoya Peninsula, Arenal, San Jose, Manual San Antonio, and did day trips to Volcan Poas and Irizu.

We had rain exactly three days, which came in the afternoon and lasted not longer that two hours or so. We found the weather very comfortable.
