CR: Driving South, Where to stay?

I'm heading down to Costa Rica at the end of March and have reservations at Bosque del Cabo on Peninsula Osa for a few nights. Our plan was to land in San Jose, stay for a night and then take two days to drive down to Osa. Does anyone have any thoughts on what to see and where to stay along the way?
We fly back to San Jose after our stay at Bosque del Cabo and will stay one night before heading back.
Any and all advice is much appreciated. This group seems to be really knowledgable on the topic. Thanks!

You might want to stop halfway in Dominical. There is a fantastic waterfall, probably the best in CR that you can take a tour to from that area. Of course, you can also take it from Manuel Antonio, but you would be closer to halfway to Osa if you stayed in Dominical.

Forgot to give you the name of the falls. It's Nayuca Waterfall and you can see it here:

That sounds great. Did you lodge anywhere near there?

I have not personally stayed at this place, but I recently read in the Tico Times about a new inn in Escaleras near Dominical that looks wonderful. It's called "Casi el Cielo" or "Almost Heaven." It's a little pricey ($175 per night in March) but that includes breakfast and all taxes. It's definitely on my list of places to stay on future trips. Check it out at www.casielsielo.com.

Well, you don't want to know where I stayed. It was pretty much on the beach, which was nice. But, the first time I stayed there was about 7 years ago. Returned to the area again about 4 years ago and ended up in the same place because it was high season so could not find much. It has gone downhill considerably! I'm sure there are much nicer places to stay now.

Terry: I, too, read about Casi el Cielo in the Tico Times. Just sent the link to a friend recently. Didn't it look great? We are going in March and again in July. I am hoping that in July we will get on down south of Quepos (where we haven't ventured yet) and check out Dominical and hopefully the Osa. I've got Casi el Cielo on "my list"!
