CR: Do I need to book hotels in advance during green season?

Planing on traveling to CR in August 05 (green season). Do I need to book our hotels in advance or am I likely to find rooms available. I am too indecisive about what hotel to stay in especially in Manuel Antonio and would like to see the properties first. Also, is there any reason to have a car in MA?

Shouldn't need a reservation, most places were only half full when I was there last summer. As for a car, MA is on top of a hill and you can walk or take taxis anywhere you need to go, but having a car helps out alot.

We did not book ahead because we were flying standby with 4 people . Before leaving I had a short list of hotels , I checked just before leaving each place to make sure they had spots , and Costa Verde even knew of our situation . All went perfectly !

We were there in August and did not have reservations at 3 of the hotels we stayed at and they had plenty of room for us. We did have an idea of where we wanted to stay and had idea of backups. Thankfully our first choices were all available. Also we didn't have a car in MA and we got around just fine...

Thanks for the info. I won't worry about booking in advance. Hopefully the weather will be good in August.
