Cozumel Airport and Taxis

Hello,

I know that taxis do not pick up passengers and that van/shuttles are available for transfer to your hotel. However, I have read several posts that suggest if you are traveling light to exit the airport and walk about 200 yards or 1.5 city blocks to the traffic circle outside the airport and catch a taxi. Is this a reasonable option? And what would the cost be from airport area to Presidente?

Thanks,

Jon and Tina

You can do what you suggest to get a taxi to the hotel--but not always easy to snag one in this area. If you do get one, seeing that you are tourists, you will not get a bargain! For myself, I wouldn't go to all this trouble when you can purchase a shared van ticket at a set and reasonable price to go to the
Presidente.

You shouldn't have any trouble getting a taxi if you walk to the street in front of the airport - they are dropping off people constantly and are plentiful. The cost is set and posted at $10 to the southern hotel zone. You can also walk across the street from the airport and rent a car from SMART Car Rentals. They have very good prices if you're going to need a car. You can get a 1/2 price coupon for SMART on their web site.

It's easy to grab a taxi at the circle. It will save you time but not much money. And, you'll have to make it past all the van drivers trying to get you to buy a ticket!
