Costa Rica weather in January

We usually spend the month of January in Hawaii but are wondering how the weather in Costa Rica would compare to Hawaii that month. We like temperatures in the 80's but not high humidity. Winter in Hawaii fits that profile. Is winter in Costa Rica also like that? I know it probably depends on the area, so I would like to get advice on that as well (Pacific Coast only).
Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

Bob.Costa Rica in January is dry,.very dry and nice, mostly hot ,even in San Jose.

At the Pacific coast, you just want to spend the whole day in the ocean.

Bob, you're right - it depends upon where you go; check out www.costa-rica-guide.com for weather info. on the different areas. It's a good site. We were in the Manuel Antonio area, and it was really hot in July, which is the rainy season. It was sweaty hot - comparable to Houston. Other parts of CR are not nearly that warm. We were at the Peace Lodge on a recent trip, and it was 68 degrees and gorgeous - just depends on the region and time of year. Hopefully that site can give you more info.

I've always gone to CR in either late Jan, Feb or early March. Once, San Jose was actually very cool even during the day. The time I went to Manual Antonio, it was so hot and humid it was unbearable. The only place where the weather has been consistent is on the coast in Guanacaste where it's in the 90's, very dry and usually very windy.

The wind in January definitely worth a mention. Papagayo winds. . .

Probably no worse than most of the time here on the plains of Oklahoma and Texas!

Bob, some other people answer your question about how hot, even some body mentioned the wind, we call that wind the NORTES and they can be strong , some times when you are sitting at the beach, every thing flys away, and you will have a mellow "sand blast".
