Costa Rica Vacation

My wife and I are looking to spend 2-4 weeks in Costa Rica after the first of the year.
Looking for WARM laid back (relatively) quiet beaches, colorful birds and clear snorkeling water.
Not interested in fancy resorts... not into hostels either though.
Last 2 years we've rented a house in Sayulita, Nayarit, Mexico for 3 months each year and it was beautiful and peaceful. Looking for something similar to Sayulita.
So far... I've found a little village, (Montezuma) that looks interesting.
Any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ylang Ylang gets good reviews in that area. You'll have a hard time finding clear snorkeling water in Costa Rica; a lot of it tends to be murky or have sediment in the water. The Osa Peninsula is also really beautiful and peaceful - lots of great wildlife in that area including toucans and scarlet macaws.
