Percy thanks for a great report on a little-known phenomenon. We stayed at the Villa Baula hotel that fronts on this beach during a summer visit some years ago. The turtle nesting process was described and the animals themselves were pictured "as big as Volkswagens"! Playa Grande and it's hotels are a nice alternative to the hustle and bustle of Tamarindo during the 11 months the turtles are not nesting.

I will e-mail Ricardo and ask him about seeing turtles at the end of March-early April:
It may be a little late but I will confirm before I answer you back
Merry Christmas.

Regarding turtles at Playa Grande in March, we checked into that last year and were told it was too late. I suppose it tapers off during February with perhaps just an occasional turtle in March.

Ijust got an e-mail from Lupita (Ricardo's wife) andshe said that March is too late for the Turtle Tours.
The egg laying is done about February 15th ... and the eggs in fact start to hatch in mid to late Janaury.
I planned my trip to be there for the Turtle Egg laying time.
The other trips I took had no time constraint on them.
But there are other places for Turtle Egg... it just will not be the Leatherback turtles.
For example at Playa Ostional, there is the Olive Ridley turtles.
Their egg laying time is from July to about November.
