Costa Rica trip report
It is a work in progress, but I've got the first few days done. http://www.markandmonica.com/Travel/...taRica2008.htm The photo gallery is at http://www.markandmonica.com/Photos/...008/index.html

Hi Monica,
I enjoyed your photos and reading about your first days at BdC. Cute family! :-) |
Sounds like a great trip, Monica, and I just loved your sloth photos. I didn't get any from our last trip - the only one we saw looked like a big brown blob at the top of the tree. You really got some nice details.
Looking forward to the rest of your report. |
Wait until I post my sloth movie on You Tube! That's right, one was actually moving quickly enough to take a movie. We are still debating whether the sloths we pictured are three toed or two toed. The guide said three toed but the face looks like the one on the two toed ID card. Anyone?
|
Love the photos. Enjoying the start to your report! Thanks for posting!
|
Monica, I'm enjoying your report and your photos; I wish your little girl could have seen our anteater. :) I love it that your girls are so adventurous.
|
I wish we could have seen your anteater too. As you will see when I get to it on the report we did run across clear evidence of a recent anteater. Lines of leaves with no ants and an empty ant hill. It was like walking on a crime scene in CSI. Very suspicious!
|
Nice Web-site Monica, nice report and pics, I wish I could get my husband to put together something like this....he's in charge of pics.
We were lucky enough to see an anteater when we were out w/Carlos on the early am birding walk, he (the anteater that is) ran across the trail and up a tree, if we hadn't seen him, we would have walked right by, totally blended into the tree trunk. It was very cool. |
I've seen both sloth varieties in CR, and your guys definitely look like the 2-toed variety, Monica.
I <i>believe</i> the 2-toed species is seen less frequently than their 3-toed cousins so it's cool you got such good footage. |
Almost finished... just four more days left to write about. http://www.markandmonica.com/Travel/...taRica2008.htm The photo gallery is at http://www.markandmonica.com/Photos/...008/index.html

Great report and photos Monica. The videos are a nice touch...what a great site you have! I'm hoping a new friend of mine will join us for our GTG at BDC next June and forwarded her your report so she could read about all of the great wildlife you saw this time of year. We've been the 1st week of April, then 1st week of June, and next year will be the last week of June so it's cool to see how everything changes. We also stayed at Los Lagos this year and daughter loved it. Aren't the pools great?!? I agree the food is just mediocre.

Wow, that sloth was really booking along, wasn't it? Thanks for sharing the video (and your report!).
|
And now it's done!
|
Monica:
Did you realize there was a huge sloth on your bed? How did he sneek in? :) Your girls are adorable. Great pics and report. MY |
Great report, pictures and website. Thanks for sharing.
I love all the tree frogs at the tropical garden pond at BDC. Is this only one day a year that this happens? That must have been really cool to see. I love those frogs. |
Wonderful trip report, Monica; I really enjoyed reading it.
|
EDH, I think the treefrogs is one day a month, the morning after the full moon.
Michelle Y, are you referring to my husband? :) He is a huge sloth, it is true. |
Good report and lovely pictures I enjoyed all of it.
Sound and looks like you all had a terrific time. Percy |
Monica, I loved the report, what wonderful pictures, darling family. Thanks so much. I loved it all.

Monica,
Great trip report and wonderful pictures (although I wish you had captions for them), thanks for sharing. Your girls are adorable and it seems they had a great time. I’m impressed with their attitude towards bugs – I think you have 2 little biologists there. We’ll be in CR next February for the first time, so thoroughly enjoyed the pictures. Unfortunately, not at full moon time at BDC, would love to see all those little frogs :) |
