Geez, colibri, if you want me to post my pics, you can't go around posting ones as fabulous as yours - now I'm completely intimidated - lol! Your camera, or I should say you take fantastic pictures! I love the zoom feature on your camera.

Percy, read her earlier response to me where she identifies the camera.

Thanks milliebz, I obviously missed it.

I know the camera colibri is talking about ,as I bought a similar one before my Africa Safari in late August.

Mine is the new Canon Power Shot SX200 IS
Heck never mind the numbers....it is the SX 200 model

The best thing about it is that it is pocket size and has s 12X Optical Zoom.

I always use my (PHD ) camera, I did not want to lug a heavy one around !!!

( I sent about 50 pictures to shillmac ,that I took on the Safari using this little camera).

I think when you are walking in forest and trails of Costa Rica, you want a light ,small camera that still has a good zoom !

Thank again milliebz

Hi all - thanks so much for your wonderful comments on my photos and report! You can tell that I always go a bit off the grid with some of my travels and that getting to meet people in other countries is a necessity for me. I generally participate in a homestay through Friendship Force International, then also plan my touring and hotel stays before or after my homestay.

Re: Panasonic Lumix - my only dislike is the macro setting. I have a lot of trouble when I am really zooming in for tight shots on smaller flowers. I even took my older Olympus Stylus 500 which has a wonderful supermacro setting, but I didn't need it since most of my flowers were of larger heliconia blooms. I'm an avid gardener and take lots of flower shots.

I've thought about upgrading to an SLR but I already feel like a pack mule at times with binocs, camera, water bottle, poncho.....

No Percy don't tell me that! I just bought a SLR for Costa Rica. I have a Canon Point and shoot I am disappointed with. I bought one for a trip to Turkey and took amazing some amazing photos but the zoom broom and Canon replaced it with a newer and IMHO inferior camera. I amdissapointed with the limitations, particularly night shots and the inabililty to blur. Thats why I was so surpised at the quality of Colibris photos because they do not look like they were taken with a point and shoot. Oh well, can't buy another one now.

I am a die hard Pan- Lumix fan, I am on my 3rd, got my daughters each one for their B-days.

Great pics, wonderful cameras. I think they get missed in the US b/c Canon, Pentax and others have mucho advertising etc.
In traveling when I see someone w/a Panasonic I always comment and alot of the people w/the cameras are not from the US.

Shillmac liked my pics so much she bought the one I have!

Well you got a SLR camera now , so you have to use it.

This new Canon that came out in May/June of this year is one of those nice point and shoot Canon's with a 12 Zoom9 that is optical zoom).

There is nothing I do not like about this new small size camera.
I have one of those bigger models but I never use it unless I go to a local park.!!!
