costa rica suggestions for 2 bachelors

My brother and his friend (both are about 30)are going to Costa Rica for a week around New Year's. They definitely want to bike, go to the beach, and check out the rain forest. Since their flight lands at San Jose late in the evening day 1 and departs early in the morning day 8, they will be spending their first and last nights near the airport. The remaining time will probably be spent in Tamerindo and Monteverde. First, will these locations be appropriate for their travel interests? Second, any suggestions on hotels and restaurants?

Thank you for any suggestions. Ziba

There is a Hampton Inn very near the airport with a free shuttle to and from the airport. Also includes breakfast with their rates. But no other meals are served.
I have not stayed there myself but am thinking about using the hotel since I also have a very early flight out. There is one review on Tripadvisor and it is positive. Don't know if anyone else knows anything more about the hotel.

The Airport Hampton Inn is OK. Typical north american hotel with almost no Costa Rican ambience.

Tamarindo is good for the beach and has a funky 'surfer meets tourist' atmosphere. Playa Grande, just north of Tamarindo has a wonderful beach.
Our favourite Tamarindo restaurant was El Pescador, right at the beach.

A note, Tamarindo offers many other , shall we say, "interests" for two bachelors.....the town has many 'ladies of the evening'.

Rincon de la Vieja National Park [ 2 1/2 hours from Tamarindo]offers good hiking in a forested environment although it technically is not rainforest.

hotelvillabonita.com is an excellent little bed & breakfast operated by a young Tico couple--very friendly and helpful. It is 5 min. from the airport and offers a delicious free breakfast. About $45 for the night. You might want to check it out!

They better move fast if they want to find hotels...this is a very busy time of the year in Costa Rica...

Agree with the above. I would make sure they find hotels before booking their flights for this time of year.
