Costa Rica recommendations sought: Liberia, etc.

I'm going to Costa Rica soon, for just under a week, with my other half. He's going to be working in Liberia for the workweek, and we'll be staying at a hotel near the airport. That weekend, we're staying at a hotel on Playa Hermosa, leaving first thing Sunday morning from Liberia. I will have a rental car. I am not much of a beach person, and am probably more interested in nature, hiking, zipline, or other sorts of adventures. I'm looking for recommendations about things to do, places to go, etc. I guess what I'm really hoping for is to get a list of "Don't Miss This!", to the extent that those things are reachable from Liberia. I'm even open to the idea of driving off in one direction one day, spending the night out there, and then driving back the next, if you think there's something that would be worth doing that for. So, what should be on my list? Thank you very much in advance. I'm really excited about going to CR!

papagayovargastours.com lots of great options.
For me costarica.bookit.com tabacon.com at arenal.net
best free hot springs if you stay there.
ruralcostarica.com Rio Celeste
closer also nice not as spectacular rincondelavieja.net

Have fun!

A week isn't much. Come up to the lake.

We did a nice daytrip from Liberia up to Buena Vista Lodge near Rincon de la Vieja NP. We had a mud bath, followed by the thermal pools. They also have a fun waterslide going through the forest, horseback riding and ziplines.

This area is dry, tropical forest so don't expect the lush greenery that is typical of other parts of Costa Rica.

There is also a beautiful waterfall near Bagaces, but you would have to search here and on TripAdvisor for directions.

It's about a 3 hour drive or so up to Lake Arenal.

The Arenal area is awesome, but I think you would want to stay more than one night. You can hike at the Hanging Bridges, volcano, and waterfall and zipline at Sky Trek. The natural hot springs like Eco Termales and Tabacon are nice too.

I think a one day adventure in Rincon de la Vieja would fit your interests and is only a 45 minutes drive from Liberia. Check on Hacienda Guachipelin combo tour.
Hope this helps!
