Costa Rica- Last Minute Trip Help

Hi we are planning a last minute trip to Costa Rica in early August for 8 days. We have never been. We would like to stay in the Arenal Volcano area for several days and then stay by the beach, perhaps Tamanrindo area. Do you have any recommendations for hotels in either area? Do we need to stay on a certain side of the volcano to for the best view? Any recommendations for things to do? Thanks so much for your help!

I should mention... we are looking at the Volcano Lodge and Gardens? It seems to have good reviews. Does anyone have any opinions on this?

Most places will have a good view of the volcano. When the lava is flowing, there's a "good" side to be on to see the flow, but it hasn't been doing much lately. is a good map of the hotels.

We love the Lost Iguana, but it's pricier than some. The Arenal Observatory Lodge and Silencio del Campo are very popular too. AOL will get you right up on the volcano but be a lot further from town than other properties.

Activities in the Arenal area include the Cano Negro tour to see wildlife, hot springs like Tabacon or Eco Termales, the waterfall hike where you can swim at the base, hiking the Hanging Bridges, ziplining at Sky Trek, and exploring the Venado Caves. Desafio and Sunset Tours are both excellent tour groups.

No clue bout your budget but

my top 2 at Tamarindo.

You want to be out by the lake for best NIGHT lava view

All good there based on budget surf around hotel discounters

like for best deals for me Tabacon from $140.

Lots to do in both places best safest zip...

Happy Travels,
