Costa Rica in Summer?

Seems they have a lot of rain in the Summer. If you have visited Costa Rica in the summer, and before I hit the enter key at the tour website...I'd like your feedback on the weather. Are we talking monsoon time?

The real monsoon-like rains come in September and October. June and July are usually tolerable: sunny mornings, rain for a couple of hours in the afternoon, and crisp evenings. August begins to get rainier.

But this is supposed to be an exceptionally wet rainy season this year, just like 2005 was. The hurricane activity in the Gulf of Mexico last year didn't hit Costa Rica directly, other than Hurricane Stan, but it still caused rain over a very wide region.

It's hit or miss. Not much different to vacationing in Florida. Could have a week of rain or sun. We were there in July/Aug of 04 and had only one afternoon of a brief t-storm and two huge storms in the middle of the night, the rest was sunny and pleasant. Hope the same for you.

The heavy rains last year came in August and September. I know that in July when we were there, it was SO dry--everywhere. Caribbean, Guanacaste, central areas. Part of that may be due to "little summer" which occurs every year in July, a couple of weeks of characteristically (good Lord, did I spell that right???) dry weather.

We spent two weeks in CR in June. We saw very little rain in Tamarindo--it rained every couple of days for an hour or two. We saw more rain @ Bosque del Cabo. It probably rained a little every day, but mainly at night. None of our daytime activities were rained out.
