Costa Rica in June
 

I've heard June is the worst time to go to Costa Rica? Is it really that bad? We're trying to plan our honeymoon, and someone recently reminded us that Costa Rica is a great place to go--but I don't know if the risk of bad weather is worth it.

Hello, go to Guanacaste the driest region of Costa Rica. There are great beaches on the Peninsula Nicoya. At this time the nature is green, the beaches are not crowded, prices are lower and it rains normally one hour a day in the late afternoon or in the night.

It is not a bad time at all, in mid june we have a small indian summer, and if you don't mind warm rainfall during the afternoons or at night come in June and enjoy almost all of Costa Rica.

We went for our honeymoon last June, and it was great. It would usually rain for about an hour in the afternoon and then clear up. One day it rained more than that, but overall, the rain didn't keep us from doing anything we wanted to. During the rainy season, it's less crowded! We went to Arenal and Manuel Antonio.

August and September may be very rainy in some areas but not June!

Where in CR are you planning to go? I was in Alajuela & Manuel Antonio the 1st week of June last year and didn't have any problems with the rain. Most days it either rained in the middle of the night or would get cloudy around 5pm & start raining an hour later. It was actually lovely & refreshing.

We will be getting married in mid-June, and want to take advantage of our last time to take a really long vacation for a while. We were deciding between Australia, New Zealand, and Hawaii, but then a good friend raved about Costa Rica. So now that's into the mix. We want to go somewhere we can't go very often, and somewhere that we can enjoy nature and explore and do some relaxing on the side. So, Costa Rica could be a good place to go...

Well, as much as I love Costa Rica, if you're in the States, I'd go to Australia or New Zealand. They are much farther away and would be somewhere you won't be able to go to very often...much more so than Costa Rica!

My husband and I honeymooned in CR last May. We loved it, had a great time, and thought the Arenal area was the craziest-beautiful place we'd ever been. HOWEVER, I'm not sure I'd recommend it for either that time of year for a honeymoon or for a last long trip. Its actually a pretty short flight from most US areas (why we chose it for one week), and even though there is a lot of amazing things to see, if I have two plus weeks, I might head somewhere bigger-farther away.
On to the weather. We got pretty tough weather, even in Guanacatse. Arenal was to be expect, rain forest and all. Now, it wasn't constantly raining in Guanacaste, but it was overcast-rain threat everyday, most of the day. My tan-friendly husband was saddened and it did make lounging not that much fun. I think it just depends on what you are expecting. If you aren't going for the sun/pool/beach scene, but for hikes/trips/explore then I would say go for it. We were looking for both, a la an Hawaii trip, and I just think that time of year you run a real risk. For a honeymoon, it is something to consider. I don't regret our trip, it was exotic and different and memorable, but I do wish I had thought a little harder about exactly what I wanted to do each day, and if it did rain, how much that would impact those plans. People on fodors love Costa Rica, with reason, but it is largely rain forest, and in the rainy season, well, it rains. If you were going outside the rainy season, I would be saying something different.
