Costa Rica in Fall...???

We have narrowed down that we would possibly go to the Guanacaste region in Costa Rica. The question now is, how rainy is it in that area during the later part of the rainy season (September/October)? Is it rain all day every day or just a shower for an hour or two each day? How rainy is it in November?

I have looked at websites with weather explanations by month, but I really wanted to hear it from someone that has been there before.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the info, although I have already looked at websites (this one in particular). I was specifically wondering about September and October from people that have been there furing that time. Any further insight would be appreciated.

Sept. & October are the highest levels of rainfall in Guanacaste. You can expect rain every day. You can never predict the rain over there, but you might have clear mornings and the rain starts in the afternoon and continues throughout the night.

We've been to the Guanacaste area a couple of times in mid-November and only experienced drizzle one or two days in the higher country near Rincon de la Vieja volcano.

In fact I'm looking at a photo above my desk right now that was taken on a boat off Tamarindo in November 2004 and the sky is as blue as the water.....

i was in playa hermosa last october/ november.
it wa the heaviest rainfall in decades!
it's the height of the rainy season.
Toward the end of November should be O.K and of course the country is still green by January the hills are brown and ugly!

kainum,
As you can tell from the various posts, it is very hard to predict. It is true that the unusual hurricane season last year produced extra heavy rain in Costa Rica, even Guanacaste, where it is generally drier (as Jerry notes). Will it happen again? It's anybody's guess. . .this year's hurricane season is predicted to be similar to last years, but let's hope not!

I suppose the rain could really foul up a vacation, but it isn't LIKELY to happen to that extent.

Went to Punta Islita last October during the *ahem* GREEN season. We missed our flight from San Juan because of rain so we hired a driver. It rained at night and a bit during the day while we were there but we got to do everything we wanted to do plus a lot of R and R, spa treatments and reading.

However, the week before we got there was very rainy. It's pretty much a toss up but we'd go back in October because we essentially had the resort to ourselves!
