Costa Rica, Grecia apartment housing
 

Hello all. My spouse and I will take our first trip to Costa Rica at the end of September. We found a family owned apartment which appears to be a beautiful home with three apartments in the mountains around Grecia. The couples name is Mela and Richard Korykowski. I found this on the NYT travel site and it looks beautiful which also might mean that it is too good to be true. We will be renting a car for around nine days and staying in Costa Rica for ten days. Here is the question. Does anyone know anyone who stayed in these apartments? We are pretty adventurous but really dont want a dump. This would not be in most of the guidebooks. Thanks for the help and I will look on the forum for suggestions about highway and road travel. JaneH

I would think the landlords might provide references? It is said however, that Grecia is known as the cleanest town in CR. Grecia itself is not much of a tourist destination, so it's not surprising it's off the radar of most guidebooks.
When driving, save yourselves a bunch of frustration: 1. Get a gps. Roads are marked poorly, if at all. And there are no addresses, only landmarks. 2. Plan for almost double the driving time than what you might think. 3. Don't drive at night.

You might ask this question on the ARCR forum also. ARCR is the Association of Residents of Costa Rica and this forum has many participants who live in Costa Rica - some in Grecia or the general area.

It's absolutely none of my business, but is the apartment in the same area as the things you want to see and do?

Thanks to everyone who replied to this question. I will follow the suggestion and get a gps. When telling friends about this trip, I located someone whose family owns a home in CR. We will meet and go over details. Thank you for the suggestion about the other web site. I will check that out. Gracia did seem to be a good central location with which to explore the country. If we like our visit, we will probably check out Spanish language schools to try to regain our long lost high school and college Spanish. Jane

Jane - a final word -- it is not feasible to stay in one location and explore the country. You can explore the area where you are staying but for trips to other parts of the country, you will need to figure an overnight or two. For distances and travel times, look here: www.yourtravelmap.com
