Costa Rica Flight Prices Question?

We are thinking about taking an excursion to Costa Rica in March, 2011. It will be a completely guided tour, so we have to do very little, if any, planning. But we are always looking for the best deal on airfares.

What can one expect to be a good price to pay for a flight from Kansas City to San Jose at that time of the year? Always want the flight to take off and land the same day. We do not want an overnight flight.

What would you consider to be a good deal?

Thanks

We usually pay about $400 a ticket if we don't use our miles.

From Omaha we usually pay between 575 and 1200 depending on time of year. But you could fly direct from KS CTY right? So, it may be less.

I've seen one package tour that would cost you only around $200. You might want to visit VacationCity. They offer great travel deals. By the way, don't miss the excitement in Costa Rica. You'll fall in love with the place when you see this http://travel.mongabay.com/costa_rica

Depends on if you have to fly to a hub or can fly directly out of your home airport for SJO. I generally fly Continental from Baton Rouge, must connect in Houston so it costs me anywhere from $590 - $680, usually in February or March.

One of these years I'm going to try that lower cost green season rate!

You can check here: http://matrix2.itasoftware.com You can get a calendar of a month's worth of the lowest fares each day of the month from Kansas City to San Jose (SJO) so you can pick the date with the lowest and go from there. Good suggestion about looking at other places to fly from. How far are you willing to drive for a good price? Sometimes it is worth it.... sometimes not.

We had a friend who was thinking of a "package" from Omaha to the new Rio Guanacaste. 5 nights & airfare from Omaha to SJO. I checked the flights and it was a 21 hour flight via Mexico City AND Guatemala city. He would have had to pay his own ground transport to the RIU (another 4-5 hours?) Watch out for packages.

Our flights with Houston layovers are about 8 hrs max.

When we went we paid $300 something each that was GR, Michigan to Atlanta to Liberia, Costa Rica. But I know their were better flights before that. I would suggest getting on a watch list and they will let you know when there are specials. March is still in their high season. You maybe paying more. We went in June. It's about a 6 hour flight. That's not really bad.
