Costa Rica - first time rafters

We will be in Costa Rica in Jan 2011, traveling to Arenal, Manuel Antonio and Papayago Gulf. Rafting is offered in all of these destinations. We are traveling with a 9 year old. What river and tour operator do you recommend?

Thanks!

We used Rios Tropicales out of Arenal and thought they were great. We did the Sarapiqui, but there are a few different choices.

We did the Naranjo River outside of Manuel Antonio with our 9 14 year old. It was also our first time and found it quite enjoyable. The river has it's moments but certainly not one of the wilder river (from what I've read). We also used Rios Tropicales. Enjoy!

If you really want the best rafting experience you can get, set aside an extra night in the San Jose area and raft the Pacuare river.

Thank you for your advise! Looks like Rios Tropicales is the way to go!

P, be sure to bring along a towel and change of clothes. When we did it, they had a place to shower and change into dry clothes at the end where we all ate lunch. They also had a photographer that came along in a kayak who took photos of the trip, and you could buy the c.d. at the end if you wanted to.

While I agree that the Pacuare river is the best I don't think they accept children. The Sarapiqui would probably be your best bet.

The Pacuare was definitely amazing. There were kids with our larger group - they did great!

I've heard good things about Rios Tropicales, too.

We couldn't fit the Pacuare into our schedule, but I'd still love to it someday.
