In response to your question "where are you all staying in Arenal? We are a family of 5 looking at places in Arenal and I am having a hard time finding a decent place at a decent price."
This is my constant problem in many places. We ended up reserving outside of La Fortuna at a Villa on a Ranch. Highly recommended on VRBO on some other forums.
Our plan is 4 days Arenal and 3 days Manuel. We have a 4x4.
As I finalize detailed plans my questions now are:
1. Is it worth the trek over to Monteverde from Arenal? The jeep/boat/jeep route?
2. Where is the best zip-lining? Is it in Arenal, Manuel, or maybe even Monteverde?
3. Any hiking trails that you would particularly recommend in these areas? We love to hike.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Sky Trek has some of the longest, highest ziplines in the world and excellent safety and service. Our preference is to do it in the Arenal area because you get fantastic views of the lake and the volcano. Arenal has nice hiking at the volcano, the Hanging Bridges, and the waterfall. Monteverde has great hiking in the reserve and a chance to see quetzals. Nice night hikes at Hidden Valley. Manuel Antonio has nice paths through the national park, but there will be a lot of people there. Lots of wildlife to see.
