Costa Rica Exit Taxes

Hi,
I know taxes at the airport are about $27.00 each. How can that be paid? Do they only take cash (colones? dollars)? Or will travelers checks or a credit card do?
Thanks.

Only cash in US dollars. Best to have exact change, much faster line.

I used a credit card. Visa is the only credit card they take. I think you get a slightly better rate (maybe save about a dollar) if they charge colones to your Visa.

You can pay in cash in colones at that day's exchange rate.

You can use Visa, but it will be considered a cash advance and not a purchase. So, a higher interest rate is charged from your Visa company.
