Costa Rica

Want to go on Vacation to Costa Rica in mid August. Would like to do Rain Forest for the first part and Beach the second part. We have 3 kids (16, 12, 10). What do you guys recommend for August time frame? What do do? What to see? Places to stay? Just started researching so I need all the help I can get.

The Arenal area and Manuel Antonio are the most popular combination for first timers.

That time of year, turtles are nesting at Tortuguero. You could do 2 nights there then head for beach time in Puerto Viejo along the Caribbean.

We need more details such as how much time do you have? Interests?

I'm with Volcanogirl and Michelle. Arenal, Manuel Antonio, and Tortuguero. This gives you the beach and volcano you are asking for. Seeing the big mama turtles laying their eggs in Tortuguero is an awesome experience.

If you can make it a nine night itinerary, I would say stay the first night in San Jose. Then two nights in Tortuguero, two in Arenal, and three in Manuel Antonio.

Spend the last night back in San Jose. You have to be at the airport three hours before departure. Waking up in Manuel Antonio would make for a long travel day.

If you have a tenth night, I would spend it in Arenal.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can offer any further advice.

Warm Regards,
