Costa Alegre (Manzanillo) in July -- crazy?

Want to use miles to fly to Manzanillo over 4th of July weekend, staying at Tamarindo. I know this is the start of rainy season and is also probably quite hot/humid. But are we talking LOTS of rain and unbearably hot? Please advise. I typically go to Mexico (Zihua) in November, and I've been to San Jose del Cabo in April but that's an arid spot.

Tansy - I can't answer your questions, but please post some comments when you return. I had a reservation at the Grand Bay Isla Navidad (Wyndham) over 4th of July weekend, but cancelled and opted for Cabo instead as I knew the weather would be more of a sure thing. I would possibly like to try Manzanillo in January '05 either staying at the Grand Bay or Tamarindo (using Starwood points).

Enjoy!

If we go through with the trip, I'll definitely post, miz.

Hopefully someone can give me some first-hand info about weather --

Spent 2 weeks late April there and it was perfect weather,70's. Cabo gets much warmer. Since Tamarindo is a little more tropical and has rooms off the beach in their garden, it may not be too hot. We stayed at their sister, El Cayereyes and some of us golfed at Tamarindo. It was spectacular, great views, service and peaceful. I can't remember if they had air cond., it just was perfect - you never even thought about it.
Rain can be a bd thing it you let it...we went to Bora Bora once enduring a downpour for 2 days...it was fun sleeping in with the sound of rain, reading and just being lazy too -makes room service extra special.
Good luck!

We usually go in May or October, it may be more humid in July but Tamarido has air conditioning in the bedroom area. It is great, as is Grand Bay (totally different though), big hotel atmosphere. We have gone to Tamarindo twice & El Careyes once. You can spend time at either hotel & then stay a night or two at Grand Bay before leaving. I thought it was a great combination. We may do that again in October. But just for a long weekend, Cabo may be the way to go. Weather may be more assured in Cabo but still hot & you can't swim most places there. I really think the most rainy/humid weather comes in late August/Sept? Anyway, have a great time!

We went July 4th week last year. It rained once I believe for 45 minutes in the afternoon. Other than that it was beautiful and not that hot.
